Brady and I quasi-spontaneously took a day trip to Cannon Beach. It was a super peaceful and pretty drive – about an hour and a half from where we live SW of Portland. Thankfully, Brady slept most of the drive there and back so I got to just think and listen to music as we wound around tree lined thick forest / mountain roads. It was so lovely. The weather at the beach turned out to be perfect. A little cloud cover, a little sea mist/fog, a little sun shine and not too breezy – just right. The little town of Cannon Beach is so quaint and adorable. I can’t wait to go back!
I ended up forgoing the stroller due to suggestions from other moms and just wearing Brady and carrying ALL THE THINGS. Thankfully, we didn’t have to walk too far, but trudging through soft sand while wearing 30 lbs and carrying 30 more lbs is quite the work out. Whew! It was a true blessing of a day with my sweet little boy. He enjoyed splashing in the tide pools more than the ocean and we built a little “sand castle” and enjoyed a picnic lunch. We were hoping to see some starfish near the iconic Haystack Rock, but no luck (at least where we looked).
How cool that we live so close to the (beautiful) coast?! This aint no Gulf of Mexico, that’s for sure ;). I’m pretty sure this was the first time EVER that I’ve been to (any) beach and not sweat (until I carried all the things back to the car) and I grew up going to the beach a couple times a year (Gulf Coast of Texas).
Here’s a little video of our lovely day. These are the memories I want to cherish forever.
