I can’t say enough great things about the day I was blessed to spend with the Terry family documenting their DAY IN THE LIFE. The timing worked out well too, since I was already in Texas (Houston) for a friend’s wedding and some other shoots so I extended my trip and booked it up to Dallas for a quick 2 day trip to photograph this sweet family. She was referred to me by some folks in Dallas so I didn’t know this family going into it, though I wonder how we weren’t friends when we lived in Dallas?! We have so much in common it’s crazy. From the moment we spoke on the phone for her pre-session consultation I knew we’d have a blast working together. Stephanie was great about not “faking” their day in the life… she simply made a list of activities she and the kids do in a typical day and that’s just what they did. We shot on a weekday while her husband was at work so he’s in the evening shots (stay tuned…)
It was a pleasure to document their DAY IN THE LIFE over 12 hours. These sessions are so intriguing to me, because I learn from other families and see how they operate in a typical day. You REALLY get to know a family in these intimate settings. You learn every little quirk about the kids and you can see the parents starting to fade towards the end of the day. You get to see grace afforded and discipline given. THESE are the things that I find great joy in as a photographer. I strive to build deep relationships with my clients and these sessions really allow me to document what we think of as the nitty gritty that’s actually the beauty. It’s LIFE and it’s BEAUTIFUL.
My goal is to serve a family like I’d want to be served and photograph them and their kiddos they way I’d want someone to document our day. I want to get EVERY little moment that I can… even things like kids washing their hands, sharing food between each other, and meltdowns are something that will be special to reflect upon in years to come. I like to capture little voices, laughter, temporary speech impediments, and the sound of small feet running on video. I capture the calm and the chaos. Life can be a big blur sometimes so, it’s a gift when families commission me to photograph their raw/real selves and provide tangible prints/albums (in addition to the fusion video) to be cherished for generations. I hope I’m blessed to document another day in their life in another stage of their lives.
