Our first month living in Portland has been pretty awesome, I must say. Yes, maybe we brought the Texas heat drought with us (sorry), but the breaks of cooler weather are a nice treat! We’ve been exploring during every free moment. We’ve been to more playgrounds in 4 weeks than we visited in Dallas in 2 years. We’ve picked berries at various farms, hiked a few different trails, explored the neighborhood via bike, and visited a couple famers markets to buy local produce. We’ve also had a swarm of bees take over a tree branch. A local bee keeper came out to extract the swarm, but kept a small swarm behind (which turned out ok). I revamped and planted two garden beds (which are mostly thriving a month later- yay!). I learned how to can and have made various types of fruit jams! We also got up super early one morning to watch the annual hot air balloon festival at the local high school. Oh, and our neighbor shares eggs from their backyard chickens. Score!
The Lord has blessed us immensely during what could have been a traumatic transition. It’s been smooth and comfortable, by the grace of God. We’ve made friends and found a new church. Brady went to a week of “summer camp” at his preschool that is around the corner that he’ll attend this school year (HUGE blessing) and he’s made other friends, too! One family that moved here in January from Dallas too (who we didn’t meet until we moved up here) has been such a blessing to us! All in all, we love Portland already. I hope and pray it continues this way. Now I just need to get back in the swing of things with my photography business!
SAUVIE ISLAND FARMS:
It rained on us for a few minutes while we picked blueberries!
This (above) was right after he proudly exclaimed “Momma! I just peed!” and was standing with his pants around his ankles. Clearly he pulled them up himself – hehehe! Oops.
Having our new friends over!
