One of our bucket list items for things to see in Oregon was Crater Lake. I’m so glad we got to experience it with my family during a quick overnight trip while they were visiting from Texas. It was a big group of us (10 of us including George) so we didn’t really stay in one spot for too long. We drove down from Portland (it’s near Southern Oregon). It was pretty warm since it was the middle of July, but so nice. Took us a few hours and we should have left the house earlier, because I wished we would have spent more time actually looking at Crater Lake. We arrive late afternoon/early evening and it was breathtaking.
We spotted a large patch of snow in a field a long our drive around the top of Crater Lake, and of course THAT was way more amusing to the kids than looking at a big lake. So, we spent a good chunk of time throwing snow balls and attempting to build a snow man. Mind you, this is a group of Texas and Brazilians so we probably looked like fools to those driving past lol. Granted, we didn’t see very many people.
We stopped at 1 more spot before leaving the National Park and heading to our lodging (which we had to BOOK it to in order to grab dinner there before they closed). The last spot we stopped was another epic view of the lake and surrounding areas. What an amazing creation. There were also LOTS of friendly critters. Especially chipmunks and birds. My dad and Same were hand feeding them so, of course, I had to try.
Stay tuned for PART II… (Rogue River Valley continued adventure…)
